Let’s be honest, long drives can be a pain in the… but you can still get those holiday vibes by getting just an hour out of Adelaide. Port Elliot Caravan Park looks out onto Horseshoe Bay (beautiful) and is a cost-effective alternative to hiring a shack for the weekend (win). There’s also a range of accommodation from cabins and villas to caravans and camping, so you can take your pick according to budget and preference – we’re not all the camping kind! For a relaxing holiday at the beach, or a good place to call home base while you explore the region further, Port Elliot is a great holiday spot for families or young couples.

Kangaroo Island Backpackers hostel
(Kangaroo Island, South Australia)
It’s a constant battle of wanting to tell everyone how good South Australia is, and not wanting too many blow-ins. But the battle is over in KI. Celebrities now roam the island, and the secret is officially out: KI is stunning. But it’s not all luxury accommodation (check out Southern Ocean Lodge
…) and it’s still a great place for an idyllic getaway. From the Backpackers Hostel in Penneshaw, you can do all of the tourist-y things including ocean and wildlife tours. But you can also do your own walking trails, check out the secluded beaches or hire a car and explore the rest of the island.
the Remarkable Rocks are actually remarkable – forming over thousands of years to stand along the shoreline – and well worth a visit.
Barossa Tourist Park
(Nuriootpa, South Australia)
The Barossa is home to some of the world’s best wineries – and it’s so close to home! It’s a foodie’s paradise as well, with Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop, the famous Barossa Valley Cheese Company and the Barossa Farmers Market all nearby, plus plenty of local restaurants, cellar-doors and bakeries to enjoy in the crisp autumn air. The Barossa Tourist Park has plenty of cabins and sites to camp or park your caravan, and is centrally based to get the full Barossa experience.
hire a Barossa maxi-taxi
to ferry friends, so you can all indulge in what the Barossa does best.
Flinders Ranges – Melrose Caravan Park
(Melrose, South Australia)
For the adventurers amongst you, get close to nature and take a drive to the beautiful Flinders Ranges. The Melrose Caravan Park and camping ground is located at the foot of Mt Remarkable – the name is justified – and is a great way to experience the history and natural beauty of the Ranges.
if you’re into your outdoor activities, hop on a bike – the Heyson and Mawson trails pass through Melorse town – or bushwalkers can walk to the summit of Mount Remarkable.
